Hmm, yes i found the survey a bit depressing really. We’ve certainly gone down hill since 1856 when workers won the 888 (8 hours work, 8 hours rest, 8 hours play).
I notice in the standard contract listed on the Media, Entertainment, and Arts Alliance has the standard hours for film and tv types is 50 hours!!
In July 2009 the Fair Work Act was passed which states:
“An employer must not request or require an employee
to work more than the following hours of work in a week,
unless the additional hours are reasonable:
• for a full-time employee, 38 hours ”
I emailed the MEAA to ask about their standard contracts. I wonder if i’ll get a response.
50 hours is really not a fun thing to do if you have children as Daniel states.
