"Brown Trash", a short film by Writer / Director Tresa Ponnor and edited by ASE member Enzo Tedeschi took home the hotly contested "Audience Choice" Award at the Reelife Film Festival which screened at the Dendy Newtown last night.
The standard of all fifteen films was very high, but "Brown Trash" still had the audience laughing and crying (literally!) during it's seven minutes of screentime. This is the second audience-voted award for Brown Trash after it took home the People's Choice Award at Short Cuts Film Festival in April.
"Brown Trash" tells the story of a young ethnic girl struggling to come to terms with her ethnicity and social standing, as well as the death of her mother. The film was produced as part of Metro Screen's Raw Nerve Initiative - www.metroscreen.com.au/rawnerve.html and will screen as part of a showcase of the Raw Nerve projects on Wednesday 17th May at The Chauvel, Paddington.
Due to demand, there will be an encore screening of the fifteen 2006 Reelife Finalists on Thursday 18th May at the Dendy Newtown. For more info see www.vibewire.net/reelife.
