Hans' commitment to the Australian editing community started well before the Guild itself.

Founder and Managing Director of legendary Spectrum Films (an ASE Sponsor), Hans nurtured many of today's filmmaking  'names' in their early years.

Having started in a film lab as a young migrant, he worked up through the editing ranks of cutting newsreels for Weekend Magazine. In 1964 Hans broke from the ABC to establish this post production facility to service the independent editing community. His commitment stood for 45 years, to which an OAM was awarded in recognition of his efforts to the Australian film and television industry.  Not only through editing facilities, but financing and indeed Producing, Directing and Editing his own projects namely Stockade.

In 1998 Hans purpose built Spectrum Films at Fox Studios Sydney, their current location. It was to create an environment for the editing community to mingle and produce some of Australia's finest work. The offline facility now housing some 25 AVID Media Composers is succeeded by Hans' son Josh.

Hans was politically astute and believed in social justice. He was most generous in causes such as raising funds for St Vincent's Hospital and his beloved Mosman Soccer Club, to which he was President. He was passionate for sport, cryptic crosswords and his loving family.
