JUST WHAT ARE YOU ON?
It's a rough and tumble world in modern Australia for many editors.
Whether you are working alone, moving from place to place or
clambering up the ladder at a production house or broadcaster. We
often feel like we are working in the dark...we are.
The ASE is running a wages and conditions initiative. This will
involve a virtual and actual (read pub-based) set of events aimed at
sharing information about current pay and conditions for editors, as
well as informing editors in negotiation and contracts.
Do you know what other editors are charging for the same work you are doing? Can you elegantly and effectively ask for more money? When is a cup of coffee a wage negotiation discussion and who pays for the lattes? Wondering what the contract means? Have you ever clapped eyes on one?
Do you fancy an afternoon at the Harold Park Hotel having a frank and forthright discussion on these matters?
Topics to be investigated,
Has anyone seen my rights lately? What award or industrial arrangement do we work under? (Jenny Ward-sound editor and industrial advocate)
The negotiation - from first contact to rolling the credits together - the producer (Frank Haines)
Understanding and working with contracts- the lawyer (Michael Frankel-solicitor)
Handling disputes...with style (Patrick Jury-solicitor)
Credits and brave new world contracting issues such as re-versioning and online materials (Michael Frankel)
And you. Lots of questions and stories to tell.
