"On Tuesday the 10th of October the Victorian AGM was also a bowling
success! Again we have a strong new committee and we say goodbye
to John Leonard and Shaun Smith. Both however will continue their
support as "Friends of the committee". John and Shaun have both
been past chairpersons and contributed a great deal. John who is also a
life member has in fact been the longest standing committee member on
the Vic committee, clocking up close to 9 years! We say a very big
heartfelt thanks for al his dedication to the ASE and his experience
and knowledge he happily shared. We hope both Shaun and John get
to see more of their families now!!!
With the business side over, we were then given a quick lesson on how
to bowl those unusual balls! With humour and a few up his belt, our
teacher Dale from the Port Melbourne Bowling Club proceeded to give us
the tips and 2 very strict rules: NO HEELS & NO BOOZE ON THE GREEN!
One of our students who arrived late wasn't aware and started across
the green with not only a glass but a jug!! Dale was heard from the
darkness off side but no harm was done and he took it in his stride (he
has apparently dealt with a lot worse!) As the club also comes under
the Queens banner, a hat is normally compulsory but as we were not
aware of this, some of us had to wear hats provided by the management!
The end result: It was relaxing and everyone seem to have a great
time. Some of us totally talked about work and others talked about
everything else beyond work.
And with a few sleeper bowlers in our group there could be an ASE team in sight!!"
