Applications are now open for Accreditation 2010
Members of the Australian Screen Editors Guild are invited to apply for Accreditation.
Accreditation is the highest honour the can Guild bestow on an Editor and is available to any Full Member whose body of work is considered to exhibit a consistently high standard of editing as judged by the Accreditation Sub Committee. Applicants will have at least five years industry experience as an Editor and they will have demonstrated their ability to advocate the role of Editors in the industry. Applicants must be current financial members of the Guild with a minimum of two years membership.
Full members who consider they fulfil these requirements should apply to the Accreditation Sub Committee through the national office of the Guild by submitting a complete list of their credits as an editor, indicating the titles they consider to be their best work. In addition, they must provide three full examples of their work on DVD, with an accompanying document providing background on the works, their reasons for submitting each and highlighting any particular scenes or sequences of particular note. Applicants may be asked by the Accreditation Sub Committee to submit further material if required. All DVDs shall be returned to applicants.
Applicants are also required submit a short personal statement demonstrating their willingness and ability to advocate the role of Editors in the industry and to advance the standards and recognition of the accreditation process.
Telephone contact details of two professional referees must be included with the application.
The application fee of $25 (inc. GST) is to be paid at the time of submission.
The deadline for applications is Friday 10th September 2010, and must be postmarked on or before this date.
The Accreditation Sub Committee, which makes recommendations to the Executive, is defined in the ASE Articles of Association as consisting of 2 Accredited members for every 1 Full member.
Accreditation by the Guild is deemed an honour and the Accredited Editor shall have the right to use the letters ASE after his or her name. In order to retain this entitlement, the Accredited Editor must continue as a financial member of the Guild.
Accredited Members will be presented with a certificate bearing their name and the date of their accreditation. The certificate shall always remain the property of the Guild.
In the event that a bid for Accreditation is unsuccessful, that member may re-apply in any subsequent years.
The Executive Committee’s decision is final. No discussion or correspondence will be entered into.

Ozdox: Wednesday 8 September, 2010
6.00pm: The Australian Film, Television and Radio School
This Ozdox session, co-sponsored by the Australian Screen Editors, will cover everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask about the editor-director relationship. Discussion will be sought from directors in the audience and from a panel of editors up the front. And…. because editors never kiss and tell, the organisers will also read out anonymous tales of intrigue, salvation and magic – true adventures in editing never before revealed in public.

• For the director: What a great editor can do for your film and what you need to provide them with at the start
• For the editor: the care and feeding of the director – ten dos and don’ts

- protocol in the editing room – coming on strong vs the waiting game
- ten fatal mistakes that can wreck a marriage
- turning creative differences into a brand new baby
• Healthy parenting – the mix and the grade
• The Sweet Smell of Success: the domineering partner – learning to speak up – giving credit where credit’s due
