It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Heidi Kenessey passed away
last week.
Heidi was a much loved and respected member of the Editing community. Over
her career Heidi bought passion, dedication, warmth and love to every
project she was part of - from her work at the ABC, through her freelance
career, up to her recent role of Post Production Executive at AFTRS where
she was teacher, friend and mentor to many students.
Heidi\'s editing credits include Jane Campion\'s short film \'The Water
Diary\', episodes of \'The Secret Life of Us\' and \'McLeod\'s Daughters\', and
Assistant Editor on \'The Piano\', and \'Portrait of a Lady\'.
Heidi touched so many with her warm heart. She will be greatly missed by
all of those who had the joy of knowing her.

"The focus from all of us was: How do we do this movie in a way that makes sense? What is the best way to do things? There were no set procedures, so we were discovering things as we went along."
“Because we’re not playing by the rules, and because you have those infinite possibilities, there’s always the risk of getting bogged down ... you find yourself asking, ‘Why?’ a whole lot more than you normally might. ‘Why am I on this angle? Why am I on a close-up on this actor when a wide shot might work better?’ In a way, it puts you back to basics as an editor, because you have to be even more rigorous and disciplined about the narrative drive of each moment.”
"If you think that unwrapping the mysteries of transcoding file-based camera footage provides its challenges, you will find the post-production workflow on Avatar either very scary, or a completely visionary model of things to come."
Congratulations to ASE Members Nick Meyers, ASE and Zen Rosenthal who both won AFI awards for Best Editing. Nick won Best Editing in a Feature Film with Balibo and Zen took out Best Editing in a Documentary for How Kevin Bacon Cured Cancer.
The AGM was held on 10th October 2009. Thank you to everyone who attended. A list of the committee members for 2009/2010 can be found here. We look forward to representing and working with the Editing community in the year to come.
