The ASE Mentor Scheme has been up and running since early 2004 and is proving to be a successful link between younger or less experienced members and other members of the Guild who have been working away for many years in their field of expertise.  Our Mentors are senior Editors with many years experience in commercials, television drama, feature films and documentary.  We also have senior Assistant Editors who have offered to be Mentors, their area of expertise tends to be in feature film work.

You must be a full or student paid up member of the ASE and you should not expect work experience or assistant work to follow from  your Mentorship. The scheme is designed to give access to a more experienced editor who can advise and give guidance to a 'mentee' in their work as an Editor or Assistant Editor. This could be looking at some work, offering advice about getting freelance work and this would normally take place at a meeting to be arranged by the Mentee at the Mentor's convenience, a minimum of three over the course of 12 months.

Our Mentors are based in Melbourne and Sydney so for members based in other cities, the Mentorship may have to be by correspondence or perhaps a  suitable experienced editor could be found locally and ASE could make an approach on behalf of the applicant.

If you have no screen credits or professional experience as an Editor or Assistant Editor, ASE cannot offer you a full Mentorship.  You would need to have some work experience under your belt and some clear goals set for the future.

If you would like to apply for a Mentor, please send

a) a copy of your CV - as a PDF, Word document or RTF.
b) a few lines about what you are doing now,
c) why you feel a Mentor would be beneficial to you
d) some of your goals and aspirations for the future

Please send these details to Margaret Slarke nswoffice@screeneditors.com

Every endeavour will be made to find a suitable mentor for those requesting one, occasionally though, this can take a little time.  Mentors are sometimes working overseas or have enormous work commitments ñ introductions and connections may have to be put on hold until the Mentor is available.
