Well that's interesting to hear, given that my partner works at the ABC and they haven't told them yet they will be buying it for the whole shop. Some sections were told they were going FCP, but not others.

Nice scoop!

I understand News and Current Affairs are still to commit. It is being rolled out first in the smaller states and finally in Sydney.
Rumor has it that the same thing may be happening at the Seven network!

Oh yeah - the BAPH states go first lol. It will be interesting if Seven goes the FCP too - that will be more than half of the local broadcast market running FCP - at least I think SBS still runs FCP? I know they had lightworks and heavyworks as well many years ago.

I think in lots of ways it's a much cleverer move than things like Ten News using a whacked out stand alone program that no-one off the street can come in an use without specific training.

At least if you have Avid or FCP you know you've got a pool of talent just waiting to start work. Of course, the program absolutely sucks as well. Can't even do slow mo or stills. What a brilliant idea.

Sure is Jude. I was working at Ten News in Sydney when they changed over and it was a complete schmozzle. I understand it still is, almost three years down the track. Very poor decision making!

And I hear the BBC (not sure which bit) could be going with Pemier Pro on their PCs. Heard anything about that Daz?

Now THAT sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen!!

EditShare for FCP is a pretty interesting new development, too - with Final Cut Server and this, suddenly an FCP XSAN solution might actually become real competition for Avid's Unity?

I understand the selling point from Apple to the ABC was a networked collaborative workflow. Be interesting to see what that was. The NAB Apple QTimes of the Final Cut Server may give a hint.

Haven't heard about Premier Pro specifically, but I do know that the Beeb want to get into a workflow where the stuff gets captured onto a server, producer can view it at the desktop, editor cuts it in a nasty little broom cupboard, then it's piped through to a slightly nicer room for grading, tracklay, sound mix. Either that or those final stages are outsourced.

I may learn more as I'm doing some work at White City in the next few weeks. Stay tuned...
