Freelancing queries

Hey guys,

I'm new around here i kinda just stumbled on this site.

Anyways i'm looking to start up my own freelancing editing business aswell as keeping my current editing job. I was wondering if you guys could answer a few questions regarding starting a new freelance career.

Where did you guys start? How did you guys secure your first few clients and what sort of work did you do for them?

Thanks in advance.

Adam,

Your question is one that pops up a lot. Have a read of:

http://www.screeneditors.com/forums/...ghlight=Arcane

http://www.screeneditors.com/forums/...ere+do+i+start

and

http://www.screeneditors.com/forums/...highlight=work

Do some more searches on these forums and you may come up with more.

I started around 10 years ago while keeping my "day" job. It's a very hard thing to do if you need to do either properly When I left my day job to focus on editing - things happened far more quicky for me. It's an all or nothing kinda industry, I think.

The key is to get yourself out there, and if you have any work that you've done, don't be shy about showing it around. Network and hone your skills in the meantime.

And join the ASE.

Hey Adam - I just noticed you are in Perth. We seem to be having a bit of a boom here at the moment, related to the mining industry doing so well, so there is actually a fair bit of work going around.

The thing to do is to network. It's almost all word of mouth that gets you work over here. What kind of experience/training/education do you have? What kind of work are you looking for?
