avid script sync and phrasefind

Hi All,
I've just started using Avid Scriptsync with Phrasefind and am loving it!

But can anyone direct me to any forums, articles or offer any advice about importing txt files into Avid for this process? Avid will only import .txt files as scripts but every time I import a new script the formatting expands across two screens and won't stay "word wrapped" as in the original format. I've tried saving the script files in all sorts of different ways...there must be a trick I don't know about. Any help, greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Try asking at http://community.avid.com/forums/ particularly on the Film and 24p forum.

avid script sync and phrasefind

Hi,

I had a dig around for some more info about ScriptSync for my own benefit.

I found a good youtube video for future beginners interested on how it works:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-tNio-VJtQ

(At 02:57 it gives you a tip for saving the text format)

I also followed JWRL's lead to the avid forums and found a rather helpful thread:

http://community.avid.com/forums/p/5...69.aspx#332169

Here's a quote from user: Kenton.VanNatten

"
Open your transcript in Word,
Set the View to "Normal",
Set the "Style" (under Format) to "Normal"
Drag the right margin from 6.5 to about 3

Save As a txt with line breaks.

One of the quick tricks I've noted:

when you click on your line it automatically sets the In point. So what I do is
click the line in the transcript that contains the end of the interview bite, play
it to the end point and Mark Out. Then I can quickly click on the start of the bite
and my In point is auto set. Add it to the sequence and before you know it you've
got an assembly sequence together. "

The forum thread has some more tips for ScriptSync,

Oz

thanks all. some of my word docs were a bit tricky to convert to appropriate txt files but I've been cutting with the combination of script sync and phrasefind for a few weeks now and using them to trawl through 50 hours of interviews and I'm loving it! So much faster than the find function in Word and with the click of a button the clip is in the source window at the exact spot. Sorry if I sound like a salesman for avid but I'm sold on it. Cheers L

For others interested, ScriptSync is no longer free with Media Composer. It's now a reasonably expensive extra cost item, although PhraseFind seems to be pretty good value.
