Mike Jones posted a deliberately provocative piece on his blog called "I Love the Look of Video"

An excellent response was posted by AFTRS cinematography student John Brawley who has been working with the Red camera of late.

Worth a read...

That was a good read. I think John Brawley sums it up nicely.
"How about we just use the best paintbrush we can skilfully use and afford to paint the best picture we can for the story we're trying to convey. "

"Mike Jones posted a deliberately provocative piece"

-and why is it provocative? I suspect that as the older industry professionals die out this issue will go away.

Interestingly, this issue was canvassed in the mid '80s by a PhD student in San Diego with a range of video and film test footage. Her results found (amongst other things) that even "educated" viewers often had trouble separating the two, and that they invariably equated quality with an engrossing story line. I posted a link to the research some time back on this forum.
