Calling All Premier Users!
I'm working on a Documentary set in Pakistan.
It's a new film by George Gittoes (RAMPAGE, 2006)
A lot of the film is about the grass-roots Pakistani film industry,
where they edit on Premier Pro.
George actually funded the production of a movie over there, and has brought back the captured media and PremPro projects.
we need a bit of work done on the film,
and we also need to access the Premier Project and possibly port it all across to FCP.
anyway,
im looking for someone who knows Premiere.
anyone out there know it, or know someone who uses it???
you can contact me off-list if you want:
thanks,
nick

Nick, Premiere Pro is extremely similar to FCP. You would be up and cutting with confidence in half an hour. Really. Check it out.
It works almost the same as FCP now, just some of the names have been changed.
BTW I'm coming to Sydney this week, to do a course at AFTRS which looks like it might be canceled, so I'll be sitting around in a hotel room with nothing to do, if you're up for a visit.
And if anyone is interested in doing the 'Editing Drama' course at AFTRS, now is the time to apply. If it doesn't run I'm out a couple of thousand bucks in fares, accommodation and lost income, so please do come if you have been thinking about it.

i dont think i have the time to do the Prem work myslef,
at least not right away.
also, i need some technical assistnace in figuring out what system i should get,
or if can run it OK in Parallels, on my own systems.
Definitely up for a visit, Jude!
hope your course goes ahead.
cheers,
nick
According to this tutorial, Mac and PC versions of Premiere CS# are fully compatible. You should be able to just open the PC version of the project on the Mac and have everything work
http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/?id=vid0236
Sure to be a few hiccups though. Thee seems to be some thing about 2 different versions of AVI that it uses, but the tutorial does show (towards the middle) how easy it should be to open PC projects on the mac and visa versa.
The 2 different versions of AVI that it uses are type I and type II. The major difference from a user's point of view is that type II AVI allows for the creation and reading of files larger than 2 GB. And it's a GOOD thing that Premiere supports both.
But backing up Jude's comment, anyone with FCP experience shouldn't have huge problems picking up Premiere.
The second part of your question about migrating the project(s) to FCP - well, I wouldn't. I think it would be much simpler to make any changes you require in Premiere and export the parts you need as QT files to FCP. That way you won't be struggling with unavailable plugins and effects.

Thanks, folks.
Jude interoperability between the Mac & PC versions of Prem sounds like a very good thing.
John, thanks,. i can do without filters & titles, so no wories there.
Thanks to Bill i l've had an editor with PP experience (Nick McDougal) helping us get sorted.
a simple EDL test came up with ok results.
probelm was the Pakistani editrs had difitised from COPIES of the tapes.
these were NOT CLONES, and had different TC.
i had digitised the originals.
at first a simple slip/offset worked,
but when we looked at the bigger picture, it turned out there is much slippage between the orig, and the copy (Dropped frames perhaps during the dub?)
so we may well stick with Prem for now.
thanks to all who helped,
nick
