At last night's executive meeting I suggested it was high time we had another "technical" event of some kind and there was a good deal of enthusiasm expressed.
Whilst a lot of the new technologies editors encountered in the past ten years have now bedded down somewhat I for one feel the need for a refresher course in the myths and mysteries of all the things we cannot see.
There's FIREWIRE2, STORAGE AREA NETWORKS, CODECS upon CODECS, non-square pixels, XML lingo, OMFI-ness......and many more topics about which I'm sure I don't know enough.
To bring on a bit of action the committee has named Saturday June 5th at MIDDAY as a time for the "Know Thy Pixel!" seminar.....I guess I will be the convenor so obviously help is needed.
If you really know your bits and bytes please volunteer yourself through this forum to be a speaker on the day!
On the other hand if like me your knowledge gulf is greater than your grasp please pour forth all the questions you've never dared ask and we'll try to work them into our four hour syllabus.
Will we be dealing much with the intricacies of sound technology I hear you cry.....ANSWER: INEVITABLY....will we be disproportionately concentrating on sound.....ANSWER: NO (unless there's a groundswell of outrage).... fears were expressed last night that we may become 'bogged down' in the finer arts of audiological transferrance.
The venue is yet to be organised (by me: suggestions please).
Thinking caps at the ready!
