View Full Version : Final Cut Pro & Apple software pricing
I have been doing a bit of comparison window shoping.
If I buy Final Cut Pro 4 (full edition) it costs in
Australia $1899.00AUD
Singapore $1308.00AUD $1,704.23SGD
United states $1299.00AUD $999.00USD
That is $500.00AUD or 46% dearer if I buy it in Australia as opposed to the good old USA.
Given that there is GST and shipping included in the Australia price, I have difficulty in understanding the price difference.

With all this Free Trade Agreement stuff going on at the moment, perhaps this should be raised with 'The Hon Mark Vaile MP - Minister for Trade'.

Agreed. Apple seems to set their own exchange rates. Their hardware is also much more expensive. It seems that they only update to current exchange rates when the product is updated. Have a look at the new 15 gig iPod and you'll see that is about right. So let's hope for a new version of FCP at NAB which will allow Apple Oz to bring their pricing into line with the rest of the world. If you can't wait. Buy an old version off ebay and then upgrade it here.

Those of you that read the AVID-list will be aware of a gentleman named Bob Zelin (http://www.virtualmediaonline.com/events/Zelin%20-Overview%20Page.html) - a highly respected independent consultant within the Avid community. A real character to be sure but his advice is invaluable.
He has had some experiences with Apple that some may find interesting.

Not my experience with getting an Apple computer repaired. Mind you it all depends on who you buy it from. If they are a professional reseller then you should be covered within 24 hours. Anyway with the money you save NOT buying Avid you can buy 2 G5s! :-D

Avid of course is available on both PC and Mac, also as Avid is a NLE rather than just a stand alone computer one may choose to purchase 2 G5s instead, and play dual Tetris (http://www.screeneditors.com/forums/flash.php?play=tetris&b=000000)
