Hi All!
I'm a freelance editor in Sydney.
I've recently been advised by an agency that while working working as a freelancer it is recommended to have a Public Liability Insurance as the agency does not cover me on other premises. I was also told that it is very important & recommended to have cover you as an individual as well as a freelancer on independent assignments even when you are not working on jobs through an agency.
Any tips on a good company for Public Liability Insurance & do most freelancers have this kind of cover?
What are your thoughts?
Cheers,
Bernadette

Hi Bernadette,

To the best of my knowledge you do not require Public Liability insurance unless you are contracting yourself out under the umbrella of your own registered company. If you are being employed on a PAYG basis (no matter how casually) then I'm fairly certain you should be covered by the employer's insurance. Mind you, I don't personally know any editors who work through an agency. I do know however, that if you are a registered company - most places will now ask you to produce proof of your current insurances before they will employ you.

Hope that helps, cheers,
Philippa
