Does anyone know the long term fix for the above. When trying to export thru compressor a message comes up saying that Qmaster is not running in background. I found a short term fix which is a command you type in terminal window which only temp fixes problem until you restart.

Also, I keep getting tape errors when trying to capture from a Blackmagic Card. I assumed it was the Betacam player (being it is an old UVW 1800) so am looking to get that serviced anyway but as i understand it is either a capture card or Final Cut Pro setting.

HELP IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE!

You might try the Final Cut Pro - L, a useful online forum packed with experienced and knowledgable sorts. Beware! It can get edgy in there!

Thanks Daz...i will do that. The temp fix for anyone else who comes across this problem is to type the command sudo /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster/Qmaster
into terminal but you have to do it each time you restart. Hey what do you do over in London?

Ver busy in London, thanks for asking. I have my own edit company over here and am cutting documentaries mostly, a mix of stuff for Channel 4 and the BBC.

Halfway through a series for Channel 4 about kids mental health problems, including a very disturbing film on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - a must have condition for film editors!

Just in the last couple of days on a science series for the Beeb about how geology affects human culture. May sound a bit dry, but the production has been beautifully filmed on Digibeta in great locations such as the mountains of Japan, the Peruvian Andes and the volcanoes of Indonesia.

Hey Daz,

sounds interesting actually. I'm a big advocate for mental health issues etc. Alot of us creatives can relate to that in some way like u say it's almost a prerequisite! Any jobs going? I can email you my CV etc.

Although we have quite a few cutting rooms and a number of staff in our finishing and dubbing suites, most of the offline editors work on a freelance basis. This is because the productions who come to us usually like to hire editors that they know and trust. Sounds fair!

Every now and productions do ask us for recommendations and we do have our own pool of trusted freelancers, so you are most welcome to send your cv. However, one thing I've found is that English folk don't know a lot about Aussie programmes - why should they? - and so an Aussie cv may not go a long way. Then again, one good break is often all you need to get started.

Sorry if that sounds like I'm prevaricating, but I do know of a few Aussies who have come to London expecting loads of work and have had a hard time getting started. I also know others who have hit the ground flying!

Thanks for the info Daz...I appreciate your honesty. So you run more of a post production facility as such. The grass is always greener - especially in London (ha ha)! It's great that you keep in touch with our industry here. It's a pleasure swapping notes with you. Maybe if I come over for a trip mid year we can hook up & talk stuff. A friend of mine got a job with a place called Frog Creations (multimedia)?

No worries! If you do come over it would be great to meet up.
