This is all cool stuff.

Out of interest, how many hours of footage were you dealing with in the editing process? And of that what percentage was footage that you obviously were never going to use and so could be discarded immediately?

Well, I forget how much footage we had. It must have been almost a million feet. There was no footage that we could immediately discard. It all had to be logged for future use. For example, there was 20,000 feet of waves with rain, snow, sunset, sunrise, storms etc that we had to know intimately & we used a lot of this material in the VFX shots. The storm scene used a lot of that footage. We assembled all of that in the AVID before handing over to VFX.
