I am very new to the editing game and far from a pro, but I have seen some very positive reviews about Vegas (particularly Vegas 6) and was wondering what was the current concensus about it as an editing tool.
From what I can see it appears to have a most of what is required. What do the pro's think?
Many thanks,

I haven't used it, but given its cost and features its probably worth a try. You'll only really know when you've used it. Not a lot of help, I know...

I have only tried the demo version, and while the model is a little different from the likes of Premiere and FCP, it certainly gets _sexy_ points from me. It has probably the smoothest interface of any editor (in my very limited experience) and it is very functionally rich, and it includes a very comprehensive audio editing sub-system.
One big down-side is that it is Windows only (which is kind of disappointing), to the point that it requires the installation of the .NET framework (if you don't know what that it is, don't worry about it).
Wondering if anyone uses it commercially?
Thanks again,
marks
I've not seen one personally - and according to this poll <http://www.screeneditors.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4> not many people here have either.
Someone did mention it to me a few weeks ago - but I don't know anyone using one in a professional capacity. Yet. :)
It always reminds me of Johnny Vegas...

There is a fellow in my building who uses Vegas for low-end TVC work (eg Lowes-style retail stuff), and he swears by it. He has a DVCPro deck hanging off it. He seems to get decent results.
Mind you, he did ask me to cover a job for him while he was away once, and I didn't take to the interface at all (not sure what version). I found myself having to think too much (or maybe re-think by comparison to Avid and FCP?), and it really didn't do it for me.
I think the biggest thing going for it is the very extensive built-in audio editing.
If their marketing dept are half as good as Apple, they may get a small slice of the market, but I'm not holding my breath. At the end of the day, if you're using it as a standalone system (everything in and out) without the need to share projects or data with others, it really doesn't matter what you use if you're happy with it...
