Hey all,
Here's the scenario:
Media digitised at 2:1 on an MC Adrenaline (Windows), wanna transcode to DV and use XDV (Mac) to cut, bringing back to Adrenaline for Finishing, but have the XDV cut point to the original 2:1 Media on the MC. Will a a simple relink do the job? What about anything I add to the XDV project (Music etc)?
Any ideas / warnings / helpful / derogatory remarks?
:-)

OK, there are several issues you need to consider. But first, yes, a relink should take care of recreating your project on the Adrenaline system.
With music and other new sound I'd create an edit with just that material, consolidate it and produce an OMFI file with embedded media. Import that into your PC before you relink your main edit.
For added graphics as long as you have observed PC naming conventions you should have no real problems either. Copy them to a PC-format CD or DVD and bring them into your PC. Then just do a Batch Import in Avid. You will probably have to tell Avid where to look to find them, but you get a chance to do that as part of the Batch Import process.
The only difficulty that you will have is with titles. There is little compatibility between Mac and PC fonts, so recreating titles can be problematic. Yes, you can export titles as graphics and import them into the PC, but they will be DV quality not 2:1. Use any titles that you create on the Mac as reference only and build them anew on the Adrenaline. They'll look much better.
And finally, a search on the Avid Xpress Pro user forums will find several threads dealing with this problem, including Mac/PC file compatibility issues. It's worth a look.

Thanks, JWRL. Confirmed most of my suspicions - I hadn't thought of an OMF for music etc, though. Great idea. (Insert forehead slap and obligatory "D'oh" here...)
Titles won't be an issue, as it's being brought back to the MC specifically for online anyway.
As for other forums, I hit the Creative Cow Avid forum, and unlike the FCP forum, I encountered some very large (and not very helpful) egos.
As I suspected, my fellow ASEers were far more helpful!

FYI, copied cut and music bins into project, OMF'ed music and VO. Worked like a charm!
A simple relink for vision, and finally a batch import for tracks in my music bin that weren't in the cut. Perfect.
Thanks for the tip, JWRL.

Pleasure, e. It's nice when technology works, isn't it?

Somewhat rare, but nice!
If you want an example of how NOT to go about things, have a look at the following thread:

At my last check it was three pages long and getting more worrying by the posting.
