Hi all.

I recently have moved to full time pc use, as my mac died and i cant use fcp anymore.

I have copies of both avid and premeire but was wondering what is the option i should be sinking my teeth into?

I am aware that avid is prob the 'standard' to use.
but with the advent of final cut / premiere into the scence, is it worth learning premier just as much? or is it aimed more at a home market.

thanks.

I have used both, and in fact have cut an award winning short film on Premiere. Would I use Premiere for my day-to-day work except to prove a point, as with that short film? DEFINITELY NOT!!!!

But that said, Premiere Pro is moving in an interesting direction. It's certainly worth keeping your eye on. It has its weaknesses, especially when it comes to long-form projects, but if Adobe maintain their development energy in a few more year's time it may be a serious tool.

For my money, I think that Adobe were foolish to discontinue their Mac version even though FCP has the running in that market. What it means is that Avid is a cross platform editor, but neither FCP nor Premiere is.

And that's perhaps your best argument for the choice to make.

Avid! Avid! AVID!!

It took me years to rid myself of the shackles of Premiere. I wouldn't go back in a hurry, Pro or not Pro. As said above, Adobe might be eading in the right direction, but if they aren't there yet, what's the point of suffering through it?
