I got a stack of premier timelines & I want them to be Final Cut timelines . I'm trying to keep as much timeline data as I can , so basic EDL's are out . What are my options ?

Mika,

If you are using Premiere Pro, you can export an AAF file (a bit more info here:

http://broadcastengineering.primediabusiness.com/ar/broadcasting_aaf_superedl/

This is an XML format EDL, containing a bunch of info, and should be compatible with Final Cut Pro 4 and above which supports XML EDLs.

I haven't done it before, and it may not be quite that simple - you may need an extra plugin to convert the AAF into FCP, but they are both XML based interchange formats, so you should be on the right track.

Let me know how you go!

The product that you need is called Automatic Duck. It is designed to import Avid timelines into FCP, but they have either just released or are about to release a version that imports AAF files. If this is a once-off, the price of (from memory) $600 US may be too high, but if you need to do it regularly you should know about this tool. Their address is www.automaticduck.com

close but no cigar, mate . Duck goes FCP to Prem not the other way. Adobe has this thing about not playing nice with the other kids in the sand pit.

couldn't try the AAF as it's V6. Thanks for the advice though, still trying to nut this one out. May just have to do it old school

Yes Mika, your right. It was actually designed to import into AE I believe. Sorry.
